Three types of vitamin C, including "liposomes," are absorbed at different times.
Ito Kanpo Pharmaceutical already had a product called "Vitamin C1200," but in order to differentiate it from other companies' products at drugstores, we wanted to launch a "Vitamin C supplement specifically focused on beauty." We considered the idea of making it into tablets to differentiate it from the granular type "Vitamin C1200," but we deliberately chose to make it a "powder," which was one of our points of focus. The process of making it into granules involves heat, which puts a strain on the vitamin C, but with powder, the quality of the ingredients can be preserved. In addition, by reducing the effort in the manufacturing process, we were able to lower costs and make it possible to offer liposomal vitamin C-containing products, which tend to be expensive, at an affordable price.
The main feature of this product is that it allows you to take a solid 1,000mg of vitamin C in just one sachet per day, using three types of vitamin C: "high purity (water-soluble)," "sustained-release," and "liposome." Water-soluble vitamin C has the property that even if you take a large amount at once, it is hardly absorbed and most of it is excreted. Therefore, by combining three types processed using different methods, we have devised a way to adjust the absorption rate and allow it to stay in the body for as long as possible over time.
A delicious taste with reduced sourness, and a design that makes you want to buy it just for the packaging.
The biggest challenge in development was adjusting the taste – how to make 1,000mg of vitamin C palatable. Putting that much vitamin C into one packet inevitably results in an intensely sour taste. So, we worked with the formulation team through trial and error, adjusting the sweetener so that the curve of the sweetness and the peak of the sourness would coincide and cancel each other out. As we developers tasted it every day, our tongues became accustomed to the sourness. So, we asked people from various departments within the company to taste it, and we went through many prototypes until we arrived at a formula that everyone was satisfied with, saying, "It's sour, but this is delicious enough to continue drinking!"
Furthermore, to appeal to young women, we aimed for a semi-transparent design that allows the patterned stick inside to be seen, drawing inspiration from the packaging of trendy Korean cosmetics. We paid particular attention to the surface finish of the packaging. By applying transparent matte ink on top of a transparent film, we created a difference in texture between "smooth" and "rough" in areas such as the polka dot pattern, giving it a luxurious feel like cosmetics. We also paid meticulous attention to the "lemon yellow" color, and during the printing process, we requested adjustments until we were completely satisfied, minimizing the blue tones as much as possible to get closer to the ideal vivid color.
Initially, there were cautious opinions within the company, such as "the vitamin C market is already saturated," but I persuaded them by saying, "There is definitely demand from beauty-conscious women, so let's start small with a limited number of stores and create a success story." As a result, we received a great response from many customers, and now the number of stores carrying our product has expanded significantly. This know-how has also been utilized in our other product in the series, "One Bite Fe Care: 11mg of 3 Types of Iron." Both products are designed with taste and convenience in mind. We hope you will enjoy incorporating them into your daily lives.
