SBT Authentication
Ito Kanpo Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. has obtained SBT certification for small and medium-sized enterprises from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), an international certification body for greenhouse gas reduction targets, in order to accelerate its efforts toward realizing a decarbonized society.
Based on CO2 emissions in fiscal year 2023 (956 t-CO2 total for Scope 1 and 2), we have set a target of reducing emissions by 63% by fiscal year 2035 and will promote measures to combat climate change.

Trends in greenhouse gas emissions and reduction targets based on SBT certification
Towards achieving the approved reduction targets
Scope1: Direct emissions from our own company
- Renewal and electrification of HVAC (Heat, Air, and Ventilation) systems
- In line with the equipment upgrade schedule, we will systematically convert existing gas heat pump (GHP) air conditioning systems to electric heat pumps (EHP) or high-efficiency models. By electrifying the heat source, we will reduce or eliminate the use of city gas for air conditioning, thereby steadily lowering direct emissions.
Scope 2: Indirect emissions from electricity use
- LED lighting and maximization of energy efficiency
- We will systematically implement a complete transition to high-efficiency LEDs for all remaining conventional lighting fixtures in our offices and factories. This will significantly reduce the power consumption for lighting and lower the overall power consumption associated with our business operations.
Scope 3: Other indirect emissions
- Visualization and management of supply chain emissions
- We have begun calculating (and visualizing) greenhouse gas emissions across our entire supply chain, and are working to establish an internal system for planning and implementing reduction measures.
Paris Agreement
This is the latest international agreement adopted at the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) held in Paris, France in 2015, based on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which involves 198 countries and organizations worldwide. It sets a long-term goal of "keeping the increase in global average temperature well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and striving to limit it to 1.5°C."
SBT Initiative
This is an international organization that certifies scientifically-based CO2 reduction targets that are consistent with the levels required by the Paris Agreement.
